Overseas voters registered in Duval County have 10 extra days to get their General Election ballots back by mail.
Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland reminded voters Nov. 2 that the extended return deadline is Friday, Nov. 13, according to a press release from the elections office. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The extension applies only to ballots returned by mail. To qualify, a ballot must be postmarked or dated no later than Nov. 3 and received by the Supervisor of Elections no later than Nov. 13, according to the release.
Overseas voters returning ballots by fax face a tighter window. Those ballots must arrive by 7 p.m. ET on Nov. 3.
The extension does not cover domestic uniformed services members or their dependents. Their ballots must reach the elections office by 7 p.m. ET on Nov. 3, according to an earlier elections office notice posted Oct. 27.
The overseas ballot provision falls under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA). Holland's office sent UOCAVA ballots on Sept. 17, with 1,373 going out by mail and 1,194 by email, according to a September press release from the elections office.
The Duval County Canvassing Board is scheduled to process 10-day overseas vote-by-mail ballots between Wednesday, Nov. 4, and Monday, Nov. 16, according to the canvassing board's public notice. The board will file its official certification of results by noon on Nov. 16.
Those canvassing sessions will be held at the Duval County Election Center, 1 Imeson Park Blvd., Building 100, in Jacksonville.
