Emmy-winning writer David Sacks opens a new romantic comedy Friday at Players by the Sea in Jacksonville Beach. Every dollar from ticket sales supports the community theater's recovery from an April 2025 fire.
"I Love You, You're Perfect ... Now Sign Here" runs Sept. 11 through Sept. 20 at 106 N. Sixth St. General admission is $25. Seniors, students and military pay $20. Curtain is at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays, with doors opening 30 minutes before showtime. Reservations are available at playersbythesea.org.
Sacks, who serves on the theater's board of directors, told the Beach Gazette he raised money in spring 2026 to cover production costs so all revenue could flow to the Comeback Campaign.
"Every penny we raise goes right to the theater with no red ink," Sacks said.
The fire broke out inside the building in April 2025. The sprinkler system extinguished the flames but left widespread water damage, forcing Players by the Sea to suspend operations, News4Jax reported. The theater celebrated its official reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 9, the Ponte Vedra Recorder reported.
The play centers on Hannah, from a wealthy Jewish family in Connecticut, and Michael, a blue-collar Irishman from Brooklyn. A prenuptial agreement and clashing family expectations threaten to derail their wedding. The entire story unfolds in a single hotel room over roughly 24 hours.
Sacks wrote and directed the production. It is his fourth play staged at Players by the Sea, a community theater that has operated for about 60 years. He won an Emmy Award for writing on "The Simpsons" and a Golden Globe Award for "3rd Rock from the Sun." He began writing plays in 2005 and has written nearly a dozen scripts since.
Showtime dates for the run are Sept. 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20.
