Neptune Beach will negotiate with its municipal employees' union in a public session Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers at 116 First St., according to a city public notice.

City resumes labor talks with employees' union

The meeting between city staff and Northeast Florida Public Employees Local 630, also known as LIUNA Local 630, is at least the second round of talks. A previous session was held Aug. 11, according to a separate city notice. No outcome has been made public.

Police union negotiations follow separate track

Local 630 represents municipal employees. The negotiations run on a separate track from the city's contract talks with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), which cover the police department. An FOP session is scheduled for Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. in the same chambers. A previously scheduled FOP meeting on Aug. 26 was canceled, according to city records.

Potential tax vote threatens city revenue

The labor talks come as Neptune Beach faces a potential budget crunch. If Florida voters approve a homestead property tax elimination referendum in November, the city stands to lose $2.5 million in ad valorem revenue. That figure represents 41.3% of the city's $11.7 million general fund, the Beach Gazette reported in August.

Mayor warns of major budget cuts ahead

Mayor Cori Bylund said during an Aug. 6 budget discussion that the city would need to find "$2.5 million to $2.6 million" in cuts if the measure passes. In Neptune Beach, 46% of general fund spending goes to the police department, and state law caps any reduction in police services at 5%.

Public budget hearing set for Wednesday

The city is scheduled to hold its first public hearing on the tentative fiscal 2026-27 millage rate and budget Wednesday at 6 p.m.
