Duval County Public Schools is accepting applications for a revamped program that connects district leaders with families and school communities.
The district announced the Family Engagement Leaders Program on Oct. 22, describing it as a relaunch of the former Parent Leader program and inviting applications for its first official cohort under the refreshed initiative.
Applicants should note conflicting deadlines on the district’s website. The Oct. 22 announcement says Nov. 15, 2026, while the program’s main page lists an application window of Oct. 15 through Nov. 30. Prospective participants should confirm the closing date with DCPS and consider applying by the earlier date.
Who can apply
The program requirements specify that applicants must be a current or former parent, legal guardian or caregiver of a DCPS student, or a current or former DCPS employee or educator.
Applicants must successfully complete and maintain Level 2 district background screening. The application allows people without current clearance to indicate that they are willing to complete fingerprinting upon selection.
Required materials include a community involvement summary, personal statement, recommendation letter and signed endorsement. The application linked from the announcement specifies that a principal or assistant principal must sign the endorsement.
What leaders do
Participants must commit to four events or engagement opportunities per calendar year. These may include professional development, district events, committee service, school advisory council or PTA meetings, and community liaison work.
Leaders will help families understand district information and resources, share feedback with administrators, connect families with services, and develop relationships with neighborhood groups, PTAs, school advisory councils and faith-based organizations.
Christina Perez, the district’s family engagement and communications specialist, said the initiative aims to bring more family perspectives into efforts supporting student success.
The district pages reviewed do not specify compensation, cohort size or a fixed term of service. Full requirements and application links are available on the district’s program website.
