Fletcher High School's volleyball team opens its home schedule Thursday, Aug. 27, carrying a 2-1 record into a 7 p.m. matchup against Trinity Christian.

The Neptune Beach school swept Bartram Trail and Oakleaf on the road to start the season before dropping a five-set match at Bolles that lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes, the Beach Gazette reported Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Junior setter Juliette Watson, an Appalachian State commit, has piled up 100 assists through three matches. Watson also recorded nine total blocks and six service aces. She is the engine of head coach Mark McGiveron's offense.

McGiveron's lineup features a mirror-image pair in the middle. Riley Bridda, a 6-foot junior, has posted 24 kills and 12 total blocks. Chelsea Akakatang, a Bishop Kenny transfer committed to Florida A&M, has matched Bridda exactly: 24 kills, 12 total blocks.

Both sweeps came in straight sets. The Bartram Trail and Oakleaf wins were 3-0, meaning the Senators did not drop a single set until the Bolles match. That five-setter ran nearly three hours.

Trinity Christian enters Thursday's match in form. The Conquerors swept St. Augustine 25-15, 25-14, 25-16 on Monday, Aug. 24, according to Yahoo Sports. Those lopsided set scores suggest the Senators will face a tested opponent in their home gym.

Three matches in. Two college commits in the starting lineup. Fletcher's early numbers point to a squad built to go deep into the fall schedule.
