Duval County's voting equipment scored 100% on a state-required accuracy test Thursday, Oct. 1, ahead of the Tuesday, Nov. 3, general election.
Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland announced the results after the Public Logic and Accuracy Test at the Duval County Elections Center in Jacksonville. The test is required by Florida law before every election to verify that tabulators will correctly count ballots.
The test covered 19 machines. That included one precinct tabulator from each of the 14 Jacksonville City Council districts, one tabulator selected from the county's 24 early-voting sites and all four high-speed tabulators used to process vote-by-mail ballots. Members of the public attended to observe the process.
Holland's office said all tested equipment was working properly.
For Atlantic Beach voters, the Nov. 3 ballot includes two contested city races. Mayor-Commissioner Curtis Ford faces Nancy Staats for Seat 1, while Lisa Herrold faces Jennifer Lagner for Commissioner Seat 4. Commissioner Jessica Ring qualified unopposed for Seat 5 and is considered reelected, so that race will not appear on the ballot.
Some Duval County voters will also decide three contested Beach Community Development District races for Seats 2, 4 and 5. The district covers the Tamaya development, and those races appear only on ballots for voters who live within the district.
Countywide, voters will decide whether to continue the Duval County School District's existing 1-mill ad valorem tax for operating expenses for another four years, from July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2031.
Early voting runs Oct. 20 through Nov. 1 at 24 sites across Duval County. Two sites serve the Beaches: the Jacksonville Beach Community Center & Exhibit Hall and the Beaches Branch Library. Hours vary by week:
- Oct. 20-23: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Oct. 24-25: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Oct. 26-30: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Oct. 31-Nov. 1: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Election Day polls will be open Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Duval County Canvassing Board will meet throughout the election period to publicly canvass vote-by-mail and provisional ballots. The board consists of the supervisor of elections, a county court judge who serves as chair and a City Council member.
