Ray and Ana Somers have opened an auto repair shop at 380 First Ave. N. in Jacksonville Beach, filling the space left by Willard's Auto Services.

Ray's Auto Garage kept the same phone number, 904-246-7764, and operates as a NAPA Auto Care affiliate, according to the shop's website and its NAPA listing. The shop is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and is closed Saturday and Sunday. Jacksonville Beaches News posted about the new shop Tuesday.

A 25-year industry veteran and a business-minded partner

Ray Somers, co-owner, has spent 25 years in automotive repair. He started as a technician at Sun Tire, a Jacksonville-based shop later acquired by Mavis Tires & Brakes.

He holds certifications from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, or ASE, in brakes, steering and suspension, and electrical systems. He worked his way into management while staying active on the shop floor. He is a Florida State University graduate.

Ana Somers, co-owner, is a University of Florida graduate with a background in customer service and personnel management. She handles the business side of the operation.

Team brings certified technicians and management experience

The couple brought on two technicians and a manager. Dave, a factory-trained Nissan master technician and ASE-certified master mechanic, has nearly two decades of experience. Nate holds ASE certifications in brakes and in steering and suspension and has 10 years in the trade. Kasey, who previously worked with Ray Somers at Mavis, handles management after five years at Take 5 Oil Change and Mavis.

Services, warranty and appointments

The shop services both Asian and domestic vehicles, according to its website. Offerings include diagnostics, brake repair, steering and suspension, electrical work, tire services, oil changes, wheel alignments, air conditioning service, transmission repair and hybrid vehicle service. Customers who buy new tires get free flat repairs for life.

All repairs carry a 24-month, 24,000-mile warranty on parts and labor.
