Beaches residents who haven't registered to vote must do so by Monday, Oct. 5, to cast a ballot in the Nov. 3 general election.

The deadline covers all of Duval County, including Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach, Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland announced in a Sept. 28 news release. All registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, may vote in the general election. The ballot may include federal and state races, judicial retention, constitutional amendments, county and local races and local public measures.

Three ways to register before the Oct. 5 deadline

Eligible residents can register online at duvalelections.gov, in person at the Supervisor of Elections Office at 105 E. Monroe St., Jacksonville, FL 32202, or at any Jacksonville Public Library branch, including the Beaches Branch Library in Neptune Beach. The elections office is open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Mail ballots due by 7 p.m. Election Day

After the registration window closes, several more deadlines follow. The elections office began mailing 34,198 vote-by-mail ballots Sept. 28, according to a separate news release. The deadline to request a mail ballot is 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22. Completed mail ballots must reach the elections office by 7 p.m. Election Day.

That matters. In a Sept. 28 statement announcing the mail ballot mailings, Holland said, "We recommend voting by mail to avoid lines and to ensure nothing gets in the way of you casting your vote."

Early voting and Election Day hours

Early voting runs Oct. 20 through Nov. 1 at 24 sites countywide, according to the county's General Election Preparation Report. On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 159 precincts.
