The Sunset Pier at Atlantic Beach's Tide Views Preserve will remain closed until further notice while the city arranges safety repairs, with construction tentatively set to begin by Nov. 15.
The city first shut down the pier on July 30 because of safety concerns, according to the Tide Views Preserve page on the city's website. More than two months later, the pier remains off-limits. Temporary barriers and safety signage block access, and the city says entering the structure is strictly prohibited.
The city said in an Oct. 15 update that staff are working with a contractor to finalize a firm construction schedule. The Oct. 15 update did not identify the contractor or provide a cost estimate or completion date. A confirmed timeline will be shared once details are finalized, the city said.
The rest of the 8-acre preserve, located at 1 Begonia Street west of Mayport Road, remains open. Park hours are currently listed as 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., subject to seasonal changes based on sunrise and sunset.
Residents with questions can email [email protected]. The city has not announced when the pier will reopen.
