Four candidates vying for two Atlantic Beach seats will face voters at a forum Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m.
Beaches Watch is hosting the event at the Beaches Branch Library, 600 3rd St. in Neptune Beach. All four candidates on the Nov. 3 general election ballot are expected to discuss their platforms and positions on Atlantic Beach issues, according to the group's election information page.
Two races are contested. The mayor's seat and Commission Seat 4 are both on the ballot.
Mayor Curtis Ford is seeking re-election against Nancy Staats. Ford launched his campaign on Aug. 19, according to his campaign's Facebook page. Staats previously served as a first alternate member of the Atlantic Beach Community Development Board. On her campaign Facebook page, Staats said she would work to protect the city's tree canopy, beaches and wetlands while supporting what she called smart development.
In the Seat 4 race, Lisa Herrold faces Jenn Lagner. A third Seat 4 candidate, Michael Kulik, withdrew, according to the city's filed-candidates page. Commissioner Seat 5 was uncontested. Jessica Ring ran unopposed and has already been elected, according to city records.
Beaches Watch said it has also asked all four candidates to respond to a written questionnaire about Atlantic Beach issues. Those responses were listed as coming soon as of Sunday, Aug. 30, on the group's website.
No details about the forum's format have been announced.
